What is your gift to the world?

How do you make a difference each day? Are you blessed with musical talent? Athletic ability? Do you have a special knack for knowing just how to make people feel better? Are you blessed with a generous heart? Have you cultivated a knowledge or skill over time and through hard work? You may have a beautiful garden, or the most welcoming home, or the ability to listen. Whatever it is, you have a gift to share with the world.

Emily Webb, the main character in the play Our Town, by Thornton Wilder, at one point addresses the audience and asks, “Oh, world, does anyone ever realize life while they’re living it?”

Do you see the value of your life, the affect you can have on the world around you? You are here for a reason. God loves you and He has a plan for you. He made you just the way you are, so that you would fit right into His plan for everyone else! He has given you gifts and talents, little treasures for you to discover as we explore and realize the beauty of this adventure called life. Elder Robert D Hales said, “During our time here on earth, we have been charged to develop the natural gifts and capabilities Heavenly Father has blessed us with. . . . As we exercise and magnify these gifts, we will be able to accomplish the callings and responsibilities that will come into our lives.”

Not all of your gifts may be obvious, but as you seek to understand your place in this world, you will begin to recognize, appreciate, and develop yourself. You already make a difference, and if you think about it, I bet you can figure out just how you do it.
