Follow the Spirit of Christmas

Well, I feel like I should start off by apologizing for posting so infrequently lately…So, sorry for posting so infrequently lately! Done 🙂

As we’ve revelled in Christmas cheer this month, we’ve focused on Christ just as much as we have for the whole mission, but more than I ever have at Christmas time before. This is a tradition I intend to keep… Hopefully for all the months of the year, not just December!

One story that has stood out to me is that of Simeon, a man who was promised by the Lord that he would see the birth of the Messiah occur within his lifetime.

Luke 2:27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy asalvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A alight bto lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

The thing that we noticed was that when Christ was born and it was time for Simeon to see Him, it wasn’t like an angel came and gave him directions to the manger. He followed the promptings of the Spirit to go to the right place at the right time. Because he listened to that still, small voice, Simeon was able to go to the temple on the day that Mary brought her son to present Him to the Lord.

What if Simeon hadn’t followed the Spirit that day? He might have gone the rest of his life thinking the Lord’s promise had gone unfulfilled, when in reality, it would have been his own fault for not heeding inspiration.

I think we have many opportunities like this in our lives, when Heavenly Father is willing to give us the answer or blessing that we seek, but we can’t have it until we’re willing to act.
